About Dr Hickman

Dr Michael Hickman MD FRCP

Dr Hickman was educated at Eton and St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School. During his medical training he also completed an intercalated BSc. in psychology. His subsequent specialty cardiology training was undertaken across London with his final 3 years at St George’s Hospital.

During his cardiology training Michael completed an additional MD, postgraduate research degree, investigating novel methods for assessing blood flow in damaged heart muscle tissue. He published widely in this field and spoke extensively at many international congresses.

In 2008 he was appointed as a consultant cardiologist at The Royal Surrey County Hospital and St George’s Hospital. Over subsequent years he developed the complex pacemaker services at The Royal Surrey and helped expand their cardiac CT, cardiac MRI and echocardiography services.

In 2013 he was elected a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians, London. He was the Clinical Lead for Cardiology at The Royal Surrey between 2015 and 2018, and the regional lead for Cardiovascular Services across Surrey Heartlands from 2016 to 2019.

In 2019 Michael co-founded The Virtual Cath Lab (VCL), a medical diagnostic imaging start-up. This company delivers cardiologist led CT coronary angiography enabling rapid access to the highest quality, AI assisted, coronary artery imaging in a specialist clinic environment.

Whilst not at work Michael spends time on his grassland farm with his wife and two children where they are undertaking restoration of their riverside flood plain meadows.
